Know your LOS pizza places

We've been having a debate of late.

Which LOS pizzeria would we recommend to friends?

The pizza scene in Leigh warrants some serious discussion now that there are several newcomers in town. Here's our summary of the hottest spots...

  1. Irmas - a classic LOS venue. Loud, cheerful and consistently great food. The pizza dough here is unique; it's lighter, thinner and crispier. Ask for added mascarpone and extra chilli pepper on the pancetta or piselli pizza and you won't be disappointed. See if you can spot the owner Simon in his stripy t-shirt amidst the rotation of bright young servers. Enjoy an ice cold limoncello as you settle up your reasonably priced bill, and then pop into the Black Cat cocktail bar and extend your evening with a Canvey Island Iced Tea. Enough to appease any local. Warning, you'll have to call up to book, and the Black Cat isn't always open... Website: irmaspizzeria.com

  2. Ugos - relatively new on the LOS pizza scene, having transformed their menu (for the better in our opinion!) and now serving hand-stretched Neapolitan wood-fired brilliance. You'll be spoiled for choice here. Our favourites were the Ragu and Honey Pepperoni. Go hungry because you're gonna want to share the Burrata & Fig starter and their Nutella & Marshmallow pizzette too. The honey chilli cocktail recommended to us by our waitress was genius. Get it. UGO's is always vibey and you can sit outdoors too which is a bonus as that pizza oven can get hot! Final word...Men will appreciate ice in the gents... if you know, you know. Online Booking (yay) on their Website: https://www.ugos.pizza

  3. Pizza Pizza - absolutely the pillowiest (new word invented, warrants it!) dough on the broadway. Neopolitan wood-fired pizzas that are pretty unique and giving Ugos a real run for their money. What a newcomer to LOS! You're likely to want to take some pizza home with you, we were crust dipping for what felt like days. Pizza Pizza has quite a limited but well curated menu, (the mortadella was unlike anything you'll find in town) and a clean and simple aesthetic. Our Aperol Spritz contrasted against the blue and white venue decor in a way which was rather satisfying and summery. We do hope they make the restaurant even more cosy and romantic over time. Simple website and online booking (yayyy) and dog friendly. Website: Pizza Pizza

  4. A LOS pizza review wouldn't be complete without a shout out to All Fired Up. Check facebook to find out when that magical van will be parked up outside Belfairs Woods. Travel safe with your precious take-away cargo.

Our conclusion? Visit all of the above, on regular rotation.
